RECENT SELECTED PROFESSIONAL HISTORY IN RESERVOIRS
Fofanny No 1 Service Reservoir, Northern Ireland
From 2022 appointed as Construction Engineer under Reservoirs Act (Northern Ireland) 2015 as a sub consultant to AECOM for the 10ML Service Reservoir at Fofanny in the Mourne Mountains. The project involved the design and supervision of the monolithic reinforced concrete single cell service reservoir upon a rock foundation. The final reservoir was buried. The roof being precast concrete slabs and beams all covered in a waterproofing membrane and stone.
Environment Agency Midlands Flood Storage Reservoirs, UK
Since 2014 appointed to the Environment Agency Midlands Reservoirs Contract as a Sub Consultant to Mott McDonald to undertake Section 12 Supervising Engineer duties on 14 flood storage reservoirs in the Midlands. The work has included staff training on obligations under the Reservoirs Act 1975 and surveillance methods.
Service Reservoirs in Midlands and Cambridge Regions
Appointed as a Sub Consultant to Jeremy Benn Associates to assess all Service Reservoirs in the zone for their size. The work involved assessment of diurnal demand and determination of the reservoirs emergency storage capabilities for the present and future. The work involved the sizing of new reservoirs.
Churchill Forge, Blakedown, Birmingham
Preparing restoration proposals under a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant for a 15,000m3 mill pond with AR Panel Engineer, Dr AK Hughes involving a new overflow, raising the dam, reinforcement for overtopping, restoration of mill wheels and tailraces.
Chasewater Reservoir, Staffordshire,UK
A category A impounding reservoir in Staffordshire of capacity 3,691ML, 550m long and 12m high, used for amenity purposes and a supply to canals in the West Midlands. I was appointed Supervising Engineer (2011 – 2020) and QCE Representative in 2011 for the Section 10(6) works. The works comprised the construction of a new overflow and works to the eastern embankment to reduce the risk of internal erosion due to seepage.
Ladderedge, Northfield and Frankley Service Reservoirs, UK
I undertook the 10yr periodical inspections in 2011, 2012 under Section 10(2) of the Reservoirs Act 1975, for these two-compartment service reservoirs. The inspections included the review of ASR cracking in concrete columns, improved alarm monitoring for overflow protection and recommending works to reduce leakage.
English Heritage Reservoirs, UK
In 2015 appointed by English Heritage to assess ‘bodies of water’ on sites throughout England to advise on statutory requirements and ‘Duty of Care’. The project has included the preparation of reservoir management procedures; staff training and undertaking Section 10(6) Remedial works.
